Wilderness Health Pilot Programs

Diagnostic & Therapy Pilot

The Ambulatory Therapy and Diagnostic Assessment program allows primary care providers and emergency departments to refer patients to an easy-to-use platform. This platform, developed by Adaptive Telehealth, connects patients to available mental health providers. Adults and kids can easily be supported. Patients can view what insurances each provider takes, a list of times they are available and their special areas of interest. This helps patients or parents pick the provider that is best for them. Appointments are available within two weeks of the referral.

Through this program patients can be referred for diagnostic assessments, long-term therapy, or short-term therapy. Short-term therapy can be used to fill the gap until patients are able to get into another practice, get a learning plan in place with a school, or address short term goals the patient may have. Wilderness Health believes that the short-term therapy will help to cover the wait times for long-term therapy options and provide patients with options in the in-between.

Emergency Department Telepsychiatry Pilot - Ended 6/30/25

With the help of three Northern Minnesota native Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners, Chandra White, Nadine Hoven, and Joannah Bluntach,  and Adaptive Telehealth, Wilderness Health implemented the Emergency Department TeleMental Health program at North Shore Health and Ely-Bloomenson Community Hospital.

Through this program the doctors onsite at participating hospitals were provided increased options for specialized mental health services.  The staff connected patients in crisis to a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner through a secure and easy-to-use video visit platform.

In addition to patient connection, doctors and other members of the care team were able to use the time with the NPs to ask questions and gain further knowledge on mental health resources.
